Lucire publisher visits Auckland for Fashion Week in support of New Zealand designers

Wellington, October 9 (JY&A Media) The founder–publisher of Lucire, one of the world’s leading online fashion titles, will visit Auckland between October 23 and 28 as part of the magazine’s L’Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week coverage. In his words, ‘I have to be there to support this country.’

Jack Yan, who started Lucire from New Zealand in 1997, has built it up from its original two staff into the most highly ranked pure-play internet fashion magazine in the world. It is edited by Simone Knol, a New Zealander based in London.

Mr Yan divides his time between New Zealand and the United States.

‘I was originally returning to New York at the end of September,’ he said. ‘But it’s important for me to be there for New Zealand’s finest at this première and to assure them that we will bring this country’s unique style to our 80,000 readers each week.’

He added, ‘For four years we have brought a distinctive New Zealand attitude and formula in fashion publishing to the world. It is about honesty, integrity and transparency.

‘Providing coverage for L’Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week is very much in line with our philosophy.’

The magazine celebrates its fourth anniversary on October 20, the weekend before the New Zealand Fashion Week shows start.

Mr Yan anticipates that his Auckland visit will be busy.

‘There is not that much glamour to running a fashion magazine. I expect the visit will be about work and meetings,’ he said.

According to Alexa Internet, an independent tracking service, Lucire’s ranking is only a shade below that of the web editions of French Elle and British Vogue.

Lucire has also begun producing two of its first brand extensions: a PDA edition called Lucire Express (http://lucire.com/xp) in beta testing; and a television and webcasting venture, Lucire TV (http://lucire.com/tv), directed by New Zealander Jason Moon.
