For the first time since David Tua fought Lennox Lewis last November, the TAB is to field bets on boxing.
Punters will be able to wager bets on this weekend’s heavyweight clash in Copenhagen between former champion Mike Tyson and Denmark’s Brian Nielsen.
“The Tua-Lewis bout was our first ever venture into boxing,” said the TAB’s head bookie Pete Young. “Since then we’ve taken a fairly low-key approach to the sport but now we’re back and looking to satisfy the demand for betting on boxing.”
Last November’s title fight in Las Vegas was the TAB’s most successful sports betting event ever with turnover in excess of $2.5 million.
Tyson, who has a record of 49 wins and three losses, is heavily favoured to beat local hero Nielsen (62-1) and put himself in line for another shot at the world heavyweight title. The match will be shown live on Sky TV on Sunday.
The TAB will have a Head to Head book and Pick The Round book open from Thursday morning.
