A FANTASTIC FINALE OF FAVOURITES FOR 2001
The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra presents a fabulous confection of famous music to celebrate the finale of the NZSO's 2001 season. The NZSO will commemorate the music of Johann Strauss, the Waltz King, and Tchaikovsky including his enchanting Nutcracker Suite, in a concert in the Wellington Town Hall, on Friday 30 November.
On the podium will be celebrated New Zealand conductor, Marc Taddei with premier New Zealand soprano, Dame Malvina Major, in Tatiana's famous 'Letter Song' from Eugene Onegin as well as other Vienna favourites.
New Zealand-born Dame Malvina Major's successes include winning the New Zealand Mobil Song Quest, the Australian Melbourne Sun Aria, and in London, the Kathleen Ferrier Award. Her training began under Dame Sister Mary Leo in Auckland and she later studied at the London Opera Centre where she received vocal lessons from Professor Ruth Packer.
The programme also includes Strauss' The Blue Danube, 'I'm in Love with Vienna', Pizzicato Polka, Perpetuum Mobile, 'Wien, Wien, nur Du allein' and Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien.
Conductor, Marc Taddei is a former NZSO Principal Trombonist and also a well-known freelance conductor. A versatile musician, he has conducted every major professional orchestra in New Zealand, directed opera, outdoor concerts, shows, contemporary music, light music and major subscription concerts.
