Locals Love Loop!

Wellington independent record label LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa scored big on local b.net radio station Radio Active 89FM's official Top 50 chart for 2001, counted down on air by the station last night. Half a dozen LOOP-released tracks made the Top 50 including two songs in the countdown's top ten featuring vocalist Lotus, who produced another big hit this week with the birth of her first child. Congratulations to Lotus, Rhian Sheehan, Shapeshifter, The Black Seeds, Mike Fabulous and Ebb on their chart success, and big ups to Radio Active for its continued support of local music...

THE BLACK SEEDS HIT NUMBER 1

LOOP signings The Black Seeds continue their run of success with the
first taste of their forthcoming remix album - Jet Jaguar's remix of
"Almost Home", as featured on The Gathering 2002 CD - starting the
year on top of the country's RadioScope Alternative Radio chart (see
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~spoton/charts.htm). The same chart
features a further three LOOP tracks currently rotating highly on

LOOP AT MIDEM 2002

LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa are among the half-dozen independent New Zealand record labels and distributors attending the Midem 2002 music conference beginning tomorrow in Cannes, France. The New Zealand Music Industry Commission heads Aotearoa's largest contingent at the conference since 1983. LOOP will be looking to secure international licensing and distribution deals for both our own roster, like-minded local labels Fabel, Footnote and Sugarlicks, and unsigned acts associated with LOOP releases to date.

ARTIST UPDATE - RHIAN SHEEHAN

Having recently licensed two tracks from his album Paradigm Shift (LP001) to Saatchi and Saatchi for the current Telecom TV and radio advertising campaign, Rhian has given up his day job to focus on music making full time. His first task is to remix label mates The Black Seeds' song "What We Need" for their upcoming remix album, after which Rhian will begin work on his second album.

ARTIST UPDATE - THE BLACK SEEDS

Picked in Rip It Up's Top 50 albums of 2001, The Black Seeds' album Keep On Pushing has continued selling like hotcakes on the back of an extensive summer tour which has thus far taken in Alpine Unity, New Years Eve at Christchurch's Civic Centre, The Gathering and last weekend's wet and wonderful Raglan Reggae Festival. Check out their new work-in-progress website at http://www.theblackseeds.com for upcoming tour dates around the country. Work is well under way on the new NZ On Air funded video for "Hey Son" which will hit screens in February, and a remix album which will feature mixes by Jet Jaguar, 50Hz, son.sine, Rhian Sheehan, DJ Vee, Pylon and Ebb.

ARTIST UPDATE - EBB

Hot on the heels of December's Three Piece Suit tour with TrinityRoots and Fat Freddy's Drop, Ebb headed for Port Villa, Vanuatu to headline the Fest Napuan music festival. Back in New Zealand, they've started recording their next single for Chicago-based Tactile Music, which they will follow up with a debut album in 2002. The Ebb/Dental Records crew's next major production is the Cuba Street Carnival opening party Club Exotique at Wellington's Starlight Ballroom on February 22nd, and they hope to take their sensational live shows to Europe for the Northern Hemisphere summer. --
