Things between
Fringe NZ: Love the Fringe and Radio Active 89FM have been
heating up for a few years now so it’s about time they had
their first REAL DATE!!
That’s right…you’ve heard about! The ONE LOVE CONCERT is the place for Fringe NZ: Love the Fringe and Radio Active 89FM to ‘get it on’ with the launching of Fringe NZ’s FREE OUTDOOR PROGRAMME to the PUBLIC.
And what a better way to do it than grooving to the deep sounds of roots music at the RADIO ACTIVE ONE LOVE CONCERT. Soak in the sun, move to the music and grab the most ultimate reading material for the day – THE FRINGE NZ OUTDOOR PROGRAMME.
In 2001 Fringe NZ delivered four supreme FREE outdoor events to the streets of Wellington. In 2002 we have more than doubled the OUTDOOR PROGRAMME with 10 events hitting the streets and suburbs of Wellington.
There is something for everyone and for all ages, all interests and all desires so get down to ONE LOVE and check it OUT!!

- Opening Ceremony (14th February – 6-8pm
Civic Square)
Fringe NZ asks all to dance the dances of
LOVE to the sounds of the Wellington Sinfonia. Get yourself
transformed by the stylists of Si Salon, George Janis,
Willis York and Rodney Wayne as they passionately create
hairstyles of love!
- The Fringe NZ ‘V’ Busking Olympics
(12th February – 16th February, Cuba Street, Manners St,
Lambton Quay, Queens Wharf, between 12 & 1:30pm)
BIG
BUSK OFF-17th February 12-4pm Queen’s Wharf (under the
sails)
Wild entertainment on the streets of Wellington
from the top street performers from New Zealand and all over
the world.
- Arty Chalks in association with Wellington’s
Waterfront (15th February – 21st February 12-5pm)
Melbourne artist, Ulla Taylor, will lead a team of
professional pavement artists to transform our waterfront.
Watch them throughout the week as they add colour and
excitement to the ground you walk on.
- Fringe Freestyle
supported by Wellington City Councils Youth Development Team
and Wellingtons Waterfront. – (16th February, 2-7pm Odlins
Plaza)
A youth event for all to groove to the sounds of
the best MCs, DJs, and Bands. It will be day for youth to
try their talents and learn from the professionals about
breakdancing, skateboarding, grafitti art and much, much
more.
- Dulux Murals on the Fringe – (18th February till
completion - all throughout the day)
Look out for the
beautiful artwork of talented muralists in James Smiths
Market Space.
- Magic On Tray – (21st 22nd 28th February
9pm + 10pm; 1st March 9pm + 10pm Bus Stops, Courtenay Place,
outside Hummingbird)
A fifteen minute magic show in shop
windows and bus stops around Wellington.
- The Big Belt Up
supported by Wellington City Councils Road Safety
Programme.(9th March, Civic Square 12-4pm)
With King
Kapisi as a headline act and a theme of “Fringe NZ LOVES you
to wear your seatbelt”.
- Crayola Chalk the Walk in
association with Wellington’s Waterfront (10th March, Frank
Kitt’s Wharf 12pm)
Wellingtonians let loose with
creativity and draw all over Wellington’s Waterfront.
- Bands on the Balcony (15th March, 12-2pm, Harbour City Centre Balcony) Fringe NZ climbs new heights in Lambton Quay. Check out pop/rock action from local bands Phoenix Foundation, Dana Éclair and Marineville who will perform on the balcony of the Harbour City Centre.
- The Fringe Cut
(16th March, 2-9pm, War Memorial/Old Museum Grounds, Buckle
Street)
Celebrate the end of the Fringe NZ Festival with
Rhian Sheehan, 50HZ, Mysterious D and Confucius, MC Mana and
Madrake.
