2nd manager appointed to Govett-Brewster Gallery
Second manager appointed to Govett-Brewster Art Gallery
The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery is pleased to announce that Kate Roberts has been appointed to the newly established position of Manager/Curator, Art Development, at the Gallery.
Roberts was the outstanding applicant in an internationally competitive field and comes to the Gallery with considerable art and museum experience. Most recently Roberts has been telecommuting on a project for the National Library to deliver digital heritage resources via the World Wide Web. Previously Roberts spent three years as Manager, Preservation, at the National Library. While there she was also seconded to the strategic plan implementation project team. Roberts has also held positions at Te Papa, National Archives, Otago Museum and the National Museum.
"I am looking forward to working for the Gallery”, said Roberts.
The Govett-Brewster is an exciting and innovative place and a great credit to New Plymouth. I am delighted to be joining the team there."
Gallery Director Greg Burke said he is delighted with the appointment.
“The position is responsible for the management of many core functions at the Gallery including exhibitions and collections. We wanted someone with a strong management background plus relevant specialist skills.
Roberts’ provides all this and more, with her management and strategic planning background combined with her experience working with collections and life long interest in contemporary art”.
“There were many edges that made Kate’s a winning application”, said Mr Burke.
One was her frontier work in the delivery of museum experiences via the web. This year the Gallery is planning major advances to its web site in the area of digital publishing and collection access. Her experience will be invaluable to this project.”
The new position, one of two senior management positions at the Gallery, follows a management review at the New Plymouth District Council and Gallery in 2001.
