2002 OlympicSail 2002 Youth Nationals
2002 OlympicSail 2002 Youth Nationals
Lake Taupo
29 March - 1 April 2002
Yachting New Zealand, in
association with Taupo Yacht Club, is holding OlympicSail
and Youth Nationals over this Easter weekend - 29 March - 1
April 2002, on Lake Taupo.
Once again these prestigious regattas are generously supported Mighty River Power. These events promise fabulous racing, excellent race management, and a terrific time for all - on and off the water.
OlympicSail and Youth Nationals are to include racing for P Class, Starling, Laser, Laser Radial, Europe, 29er, Mistral, 470, 49er, 420, and Tornado.
This year's event has attracted a record number of entries. Nearly 200 of New Zealand's future champions will sail in the Lake Taupo competition.
Fleets will sail as classes, and where there are both Youth Nationals and OlympicSail entrants in a class, they will sail as one fleet. There will however be separate recognition for the 'divisional' winners.
The combining of the two events has availed a wonderful opportunity to New Zealand top youth sailors to compete with Olympic Games contenders.
The inclusion of P Class and Starling sailors gives this younger group a taste of international quality competition and a chance to rub shoulders with mentors and those they wish to emulate.
The Youth Nationals serves as Youth Selection Trials for selection to the 2002 Yachting New Zealand Youth Team to compete at the ISAF Youth World Championships in Canada in July.
OlympicSail is the final event on the New Zealand Olympic Classes Ranking List and encompasses selection for the Pre Pre Olympics in Athens.
