TAB odds out on first games in FIFA World Cup

The TAB has today released its odds for the first round of games in the 2002 Soccer World Cup as well as the odds for the top goal scorer in the competition – the famous Golden Boot.

Brazilian superstar Ronaldo is the TAB’s favourite to win the Golden Boot, paying $10.00.

TAB soccer bookie Kevin Romyn said: “He recently returned from injury and has been in goal-scoring form for Inter Milan, scoring four goals in the last five matches of the season.. Brazil are also in a relatively easy group so, in my opinion, he’s deserved favourite.”

Other favoured Golden Boot contenders are Italy’s Christian Vieri ($12), Frenchmen Thierry Henry ($12) and David Trezeguet ($14) , England’s Michael Owen ($14), Spain’s Raul ($14) and Argentinean Gabriel Batistuta ($14).

Meanwhile, in the opening match of the World Cup, defending champions France are $1.30 favourites over African newcomers Senegal who are paying $9.00.

In another interesting opening game match-up, Sven Goran Eriksson will coach the England team against his countrymen from Sweden.

Romyn has England at $2.00 and Sweden $3.60. “I still rate England favourites despite Beckham and Kieron Dyer being doubtful and Steven Gerrard out,” he said.

The TAB also has its Tournament Winner, To Make The Semi Finals, and Group Winner books out.
