Panui Papaho/Media Statement

Te 24 o nga ra o Haratua 2002

Ruia Mai sports manager Henare Pryor wraps up the Telecom Super 12 rugby season with a live broadcast from the final between the Crusaders and the Brumbies tomorrow night (25/5/02).

Mr Pryor and co-commentator Dan Hiramana-Rua will fly the flag for the national Maori language radio service at Christchurch's Jade Stadium. Mr Pryor has broadcast from nearly 20 Super 12 games since the season began in late February.

"I'm very pleased with the reaction from listeners around the country who have rung to congratulate us on the Super 12 broadcasts," Mr Pryor says. "At this present time, we're at the top of the game in commentating rugby entirely in the Maori language." Saturday night's broadcast will run from 7.15pm until 9.30pm. It will be available as a separate channel on the Punga Net and will be labelled 'RUIA MAI - SUPER 12'. Listeners can also tune in via the station's Auckland frequency, 1179AM, or on the website www.ruiamai.co.nz.

The Ruia Mai sports show, Te Papa Takaaro, will broadcast between 7am and 9am this Saturday morning (25/5).

Ruia Mai celebrated its sixth birthday this week. Since its launch in May 1996, the Ngati Whatua station has supported the preservation and protection of the Maori language and culture through the production of news, current affairs, sport, education, youth and music shows.
