The Grand TAB World Cup Punting Comp

Monday 27 May 2002

The hype has started, everyone’s an expert and sports journos are filling up their pages with everything you need to know about the 2002 FIFA World Cup – but just how good are you? Are you good enough to take on the rest of the New Zealand sporting media?

New Zealand’s sports scribes and broadcasters are invited to take part in the Grand TAB World Cup Punting Comp and vie for the title of Grand Champion Soccer Brain plus bragging rights for the next four years. Here’s how it works.

We’ll list each of the games and their corresponding head to head and draw odds. You have $1,000 virtual dollars to spend on each round. Spend it however you want – whether it be five bucks on each game or the whole grand on one result. The person with the most winnings at the end of the World Cup wins the grand prize of a $200 betting voucher. Second place gets $100, third $50. Those of you who are punters will know these can be cashed in!

The first week’s games are attached. If more than one person in your organisation wants to play then photocopy a sheet for each player. We’ll keep you updated with how everyone’s going as well as the following week’s sheets.

To enter, read the HOW TO PLAY rules on the attached sheet, mark your picks for the first round and fax back to (04) 576 6980. If you would rather get the forms plus the weekly review by email, feel free to drop me a line at joe.locke@tab.co.nz. Good luck. May the best soccer brain win.
