More than a Mummy - 150 Years of Collecting Until 31 January 2003 This show will commemorate the 150th birthday of Auckland Museum. Special guest appearances by some of the Museum’s most unusual and loved objects. Decorative Arts West

Reporting the World: John Pilger’s Great Eyewitness Photographers Until 21 July For nearly 40 years, renowned journalist and documentary-maker John Pilger, has been reporting major news stories from around the globe. From the killing fields of Cambodia, to the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, Pilger, has recorded and exposed international issues, accompanied by some of the world’s finest photojournalists.

Reporting the World, is Pilger’s selection of photographs and world events; a jigsaw of the key stories and troublespots from the latter half of the 20th century. Supported by Pilger’s in-depth captions and commentary, it is a graphic and stirring portrait of humanity in conflict.

Reporting the World was first exhibited at the Barbican in London and is supported by the British Council. Viewers may find some images disturbing. Exhibition Halls 1 & 2

Private Paton’s Photos: North Africa 1941-42 Until 4 August Coinciding with Anzac commemorations this April, is the first of a series of exhibitions curated in association with the New Zealand Herald. Focusing on the photographic work of front line soldier Harold Patton, Private Paton’s Photos provides a rare glimpse of Kiwi soldiers' everyday lives in the North African desert. Images range from impromptu cricket games and skinny dips at the beach, to epic military parades and the smoking debris of war Pictorial Gallery

Pioneers of New Zealand Wine Until 25 August An exhibition to mark the publication of Pioneers of New Zealand Wine by Dick Scott with photographs by Marti Friedlander. It will include photographs and objects from the Museum's collections, including the first wine press used in New Zealand and a selection of wine bottles, equipment, placards, wine labels and memorabilia. There will be an emphasis on West Auckland winemakers, including Corbans Wines, established one hundred years ago. East West Gallery

Ferns and Folk Until 27 August An exhibition celebrating the place of the fern in New Zealand’s cultural, sporting and decorative arts history. Ethno-Open Storage Gallery

Volunteers & Militia Until November Volunteers and Militia is an exhibition focusing on the first 50 years of volunteers and militia in the Auckland region. The exhibition will feature uniforms, medals, memorabilia and a selection of photographs from the Museum’s collections.

Music in the Museum Sunday 7 July A rousing performance by the City of Sails Chorus will electrify the Museum Foyer. 3pm

Reporting the World: On Film 14 July Coinciding with Reporting the World exhibition. A screening of the award-winning Pilger documentary, Death of a Nation: the East Timor Conspiracy (1994). This film was instrumental in changing public opinion about the Indonesian invasion of East Timor and the enormous humanitarian disaster that ensued for the East Timorese people. APEC Room, 3pm

Time in Motion: The Pictures on Sunday 28 July This non-fiction film series, curated by the New Zealand Film Archive looks at New Zealand’s cultural past. This edition looks at New Zealand’s Good Sports. APEC Room, 3pm
