WineSacred Hill Tops Tastings In Two Of The Worlds Most
Acclaimed Wine Magazines.
Sacred Hill winery were pleased to learn that their recent venture into the Marlborough wine scene was ratified by high ratings, not in just one, but two of the worlds most widely read wine publications. The ‘Wine Spectator’ and the ‘Decanter Magazine’ recently scored Sacred Hill’s first ever Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2001 as one of the top wines of their respective tastings.
In the February 2002 issue of ‘Decanter’, widely quoted as “the worlds best wine magazine”, Sacred Hill’s Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2001 was rated Best Value Wine of the ‘Best New Releases’ tasting. The tasting focuses on the best 12 new releases into the UK market for the month, a highly contested list in one of the worlds most competitive markets. The same wine has just won a slot in the last issue of ‘Wine Spectator’ magazines ‘Spectator Selections’, as a ‘Smart Buy’ and one of the top wines of the tasting. Like ‘Decanter’, ‘Wine Spectator’ is regarded as one of the world best wine magazines with high rating scores seen as an enormous boost for the brand on the world market.
Sacred Hill acquired vineyards in Marlborough 15 months ago with its purchase of Cairnbrae vineyards and its wines. Since this time the winery has worked hard to secure further grape resources for it’s inaugural range of Marlborough varietal wines. Until this time Sacred Hill has been a Hawkes Bay producer, focusing only on the production of premium wines from that region. “It has been an exciting time for us, both as winemakers and wine marketeers” say Tony Bish, Sacred Hill chief winemaker. “We have always prided ourselves on our classic premium Hawkes Bay wines, but Marlborough is new territory and stylistically the wines are very different – especially the Sauvignon Blanc”.
Sacred Hill has just
released its first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc domestically,
with the launch of the 2002 vintage Sacred Hill Marlborough
Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc. The wine has already invoked a
lot of interest and is set to make an impact in the market
while strengthening the Sacred Hill portfolio. “If we can
continue winning this type of endorsement for our wines, not
only does the future look exciting for us as an
international brand, but also for New Zealand as a country
that produces internationally acclaimed wines”.
