Rally website puts spectators in driver’s seat

For Immediate release, 10 October 2002

Rally website puts spectators in driver’s seat

The official website for the EnergyWise Rally 2002 has now been switched on. www.energywiserally.org.nz provides an explanation of the event in all its detail.

“This event highlights the fuel efficiency, environmental responsibility, safety and value of new cars,” said Perry Kerr, Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Industry Association. “The website will greatly assist those who are unable to follow the rally in person, and it will be particularly useful in providing information on the event for those who have enquired from overseas.”

News releases covering announcements relating to specific cars and drivers are available, and a map shows the 1500 kilometre route taken by the participants in the November 11-14 event. A full list of competitors is displayed, including a description of each competing car.

The rally site will continue to be updated before, during and after the event itself.

The site even has a list of economy driving tips. Economy driving is not about driving so slowly that other road users are inconvenienced, but the fuel savings that can be made through observing a few simple points in everyday driving can be quite substantial.

During the event, ‘real time’ results will be available on the site. After each day’s run, the fuel consumption of each car will be logged in, and progress results will be available almost immediately. At the conclusion of the rally the final results will remain as a permanent database, to be added to should the event be repeated in subsequent years.

Designed by Stephen Reid of Art Direction, the site is simple to follow, and uses highly-effective graphics. It highlights the concept of the event and offers the visitor an in-depth look at how the rally developed and what it provides for motorists in an increasingly energy-conscious environment.
