Carlson Set To Rock L'oreal New Zealand Fashion Week

Think frockcoating, think elegant decadence, think flamboyant velvets and think the flaming rock renaissance - and stand by for one of the hottest shows of Fashion Week, not to mention the coolest winter collection.

Fashion designer Tanya Carlson will next week unveil her Winter 2003 collection to international and local fashion media and buyers on the opening show day of L'Oreal New Zealand Fashion Week.

Carlson's Winter 2003 collection continues the strong theming of her runaway/runway success at last year's Fashion Week - The Fall of the Winter Palace. The Winter 2003 theme will remain under wraps until show day.

Last year's show, The Fall of the Winter Palace, combined influences from Russian aristocracy through to gypsy styling and military emblems. French Chantilly lace, Merino wool, military-inspired Great Coats and sumptuous velvet dresses featured, along with Carlson's first selection of casual wear and first jeans. Models strode down the catwalk to the sounds of Stevie Nicks, Bryan Ferry and Cher. The show drew critical acclaim from both local and international media, including Hilary Alexander of London's Daily Telegraph and Jen Ford of Wallpaper and Spruce magazines.

The success of The Fall of the Winter Palace was followed by this year's knock-out Summer 2002/03 collection, titled No More Twist, which put a modernist spin on 18th century tailoring.

Tanya Carlson says L'Oreal New Zealand Fashion Week is the perfect vehicle for launching her new Winter collection. "Last year's show was a huge success for us, with some significant business gains," Tanya Carlson says. "This year, we'll be looking to build on those achievements with a strong collection that showcases all the hallmarks of Carlson design - exquisite detailing, excellent cut and unexpected elements of construction," she says.

The Carlson show is scheduled for 4pm, Tuesday 22 October at the Auckland Town Hall Concert Chamber.
