LA critic David Pagel lecture at Artspace

“Wrong: contemporary art in Los Angeles”

Public lecture at Artspace, 1 November 2002 midday

David Pagel, L.A. critic and curator

Internationally acclaimed L.A. critic and curator David Pagel is visiting New Zealand late in October and Artspace will be the only Auckland venue for his guest lecture on L.A. art. He says, “It's about artists who deliberately and wilfully misinterpret the works of their more famous predecessors to make a place and a name for themselves.”

A major contributor to the international art scene, David Pagel is a graduate of Harvard and Stanford Universities and has since written regular columns for the LA Times and major art magazines such as Flash Art, Frieze, Art & Text and Bomb.

Pagel has curated innovative and ground breaking exhibitions across America and Europe. In 2000 he curated Radar Love at Galleria Marabini, Bologna, Italy and New American Talent #15, Texas Fine Arts Association, Austin, Texas. Those exhibitions come on the heels of a string of exhibitions featuring new artists, at university galleries throughout the USA.

In addition, Pagel has lectured at major art schools in California including Art Center College of Design, University of California, Los Angeles, Otis College of Art and Design and California Institute of the Arts.

This is a free event.
