She’s HOT, she’s PINK, she’s………… with her poetic cabaret

Ever wondered what would happen if you crossed Pam Ayers with Cosmopolitan Magazine? Well wonder no more as in the poetic musings of Penny Ashton you’ll find just that. A fresh, sassy and just a bit saucy perspective on life, love and sex that is quite definitely pink, and perhaps even a bit sparkly too. Combine this with a lavish setting, a bubble machine, guest stars AND fabulous musicians and voila; Hot Pink; The Poetic Cabaret is born!

This November, The Temple Bar on Queen St will play host to a unique event; the premiere of Penny Ashton’s first solo show; Hot Pink. Penny has been honing her performance poetry on such diverse subjects as boys forearms, lamb kebabs, Australian sleazebags and those women who wear white pants, for over the past year at various venues throughout the country. She is a regular feature at both the Classic Comedy Bar and the Temple Bar and has a weekly column on the Xtra website where she explains the plight of a single girl to anyone willing to listen. Her poems have been published in the NZ Listener, in various Poetry Journals and two have even been shortlisted for International Competitions.

For her solo debut, Penny has gathered together a truly talented array of guest stars. Jan Maree will be treating the audience to her own poetry as will the original Man of Pink himself, Radar. Singer/Songwriters Andrea Olsen and Ramon will also lend their fabulous talents to ensure Hot Pink is one colourful evening not to be missed. From the moment she began performing as an obnoxious ballet brat, Penny Ashton knew that the stage was where she felt at home. Since hanging up her ballet slippers, due to her pesky need to eat, Penny has studied Drama at Canterbury University and travelled to London where she learnt those invaluable lessons of how to pull a pint and that the English are crap at coffee. Now that she has returned to New Zealand she has become a regular fixture of the arts community both as a poet, an actor (Shortland St, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Theatresports), a voice over artist, a producer (Little Che) and as a publicist. She is passionate about the arts…. and quite interested in boys too.
