New Challenges for Rally New Zealand
Propecia Rally New Zealand has been confirmed for April in next year’s prestigious 2003 FIA World Rally Championship. The rally set for April 10-13 will be the first event of the season outside Europe and will follow the newly promoted Rally of Turkey.
“Interest in the World Rally Championship is huge with several countries having thrown their name into the ring for future inclusion, said Chairman of Rally New Zealand, Morrie Chandler, who has just returned from a series of meetings in Europe.
“Last year Germany was added at the expense of Portugal and for 2003 Turkey has been included in place of the Kenyan Safari Rally.
“The World Rally Championship has become very fashionable and everyone wants to be a part of it,” Mr Chandler said.
“Significant progress has been made to deliver live television coverage to the European viewer audience during the 2003 season which in turn raises the level of interest from countries seeking exposure through this medium.
Statistics revealed during the meetings showed phenomenal interest in the WRC with a television audience of over 4.2 billion annually.
The meetings also covered safety issues as increasing spectator interest placed greater demands on providing safe areas for them to watch the action.
Propecia Rally New Zealand is expecting increased entries from seven works teams and with the event having been brought forward to April the pressure is on the organising team to deliver a top level event.
