International Emmy Nomination For New Zealand TV Producer

New Zealand television producer, Vanessa Alexander, is in New York after her show, “Being Eve” was nominated for an International Emmy Award.

Ms Alexander’s trip to New York and development opportunities arising from it are supported by Industry New Zealand’s Enterprise Culture Programme, which promotes attitudes and values supportive of entrepreneurial activity and business success in New Zealand.

“It was amazing to be nominated - a real honour. It’s only the second time a New Zealand show has been nominated,” said Ms Alexander.

“The International Emmys are one of the biggest highlights on the international television calendar. This nomination creates so many opportunities in terms of networking and guidance and funding for future projects.”

Vanessa Alexander produced Being Eve, originally conceived by writers Maxine Fleming and Gavin Strawham, for South Pacific Pictures. The series won Best Drama Series Award in New Zealand as well as the Gold World Medal at the New York Festival in June this year.

“There was so much creative scope to be found in the scripts by Maxine and Gavin and it’s wonderful the show wowed all these top international judges,” said Ms Alexander.

Industry New Zealand is working with Ms Alexander to ensure the New Zealand film sector benefits from her experience in the United States. While in the United States, Ms Alexander will meet with film executives to explore funding options and collaborative opportunities for projects she wants to get underway in New Zealand. Ms Alexander also plans to share her fresh knowledge of the United States’ film industry with fellow New Zealanders and will be giving presentations to film industry representatives and students on her return. Julian Moore, Marketing Manager at Industry New Zealand, said that Ms Alexander’s nomination was an inspiration to all New Zealand entrepreneurs and innovators. “It shows us that our talent is up there with the best in the world.” A key aim of Industry New Zealand’s Enterprise Culture Programme is to celebrate a business success in New Zealand and build awareness of the role business plays in creating economic growth. “Events like this allow us to maximise opportunities for sharing and celebrating success. The International Emmys are run by The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. It is the largest organisation of global broadcasters, with representatives from over 50 countries. It was created to honour excellence in television programming outside the United States by awarding the International Emmy Award. Presenters this year include Angela Lansbury and Joan Collins.
