Ambulance officers in New Zealand have scored the highest trust rating ever, over the three years that Reader's Digest has surveyed our most trusted brands, institutions and professions. They also scored top place in Australia.
In New Zealand, ambulance officers scored 8.85 out of 10. The most trusted profession last year, firefighters, scored 8.15 to win, and in 2000 pilots scored 8.26 to win top place.
According to the poll, the key points of trust in professions are that they put others before themselves, are most likely to keep the public safe, and that they reliably and consistently deliver on their promises.
In New Zealand, St John run most of the country's ambulance services and employ over 800 full time and 2,000 volunteer ambulance officers.
The top five trusted professions for this year are ambulance officers in top place, followed by fire fighters, nurses, pilots and doctors taking fifth place.
Reader's Digest surveyed 750 New Zealanders from all walks of life to find out the professions, institutions and brands we trust and rely on.
