Powerco Village offers Masters respite
Powerco Village offers Masters respite
More than 7,500 participants from all around New Zealand competing in this year’s New Zealand Masters Games will be able to take a welcome break from their exertions in the Powerco Games Village situated in Springfield Park in Wanganui.
And thanks to Powerco, the look of the village, opening tomorrow (Feb 1), has been transformed with coloured lights making a dramatic display in the evenings, says Masters Games manager David Penn.
“It looks magnificent and the feedback has been phenomenal,” Mr Penn says.
The village will be the hub of the games and the venue for the social programme which includes an opening ceremony featuring The Warratahs, nightly entertainment from a wide range of bands and performers, and special events such as a visit from the stars of the Hurricanes Squad (4.30pm Monday February 3).
The Powerco Games Village is housed in a large marquee where light meals and refreshments will be available daily. The village will also contain the registration centre, results, photo and merchandising sales, the ACC display and the Sports Injury Clinic.
Powerco’s contribution cannot be underestimated,” says Mr Penn. “The Games are much more than just a sporting event and to have a facility such as this means people can meet up with old friends and mix with people from different sporting codes.”
Powerco also sponsored the entry passes for the Games which Mr Penn says has “livened” them up to a great degree.
It is the sixth year Powerco has been a key sponsor for the games and Corporate Affairs Manager Annette Scullion says the company is delighted to lend its name to such a key element in the largest multisport event in the country.
“These games reflect the true spirit of Kiwis, always prepared to give something a go. Those taking part are not necessarily at the top of their field. Sometimes they even compete in new events at the Masters. It’s a real grassroots community event and that’s why Powerco continues to be such a strong supporter. We are very much a part of the communities in which we operate,” Ms Scullion says. “We’re very much looking forward to the opening of the games and playing our part in what we are sure will be another memorable occasion,” Ms Scullion says.
The games run until Sunday
