Try Out Your Skills At V Freestyle

Can you ollie, throw up, twiddle or shred? Want to figure out what they mean and how to do them?

Get down to V Freestyle, a free Fringe NZ event being held at Chaffers Park from 12noon till 4pm on Saturday 22 February.

“Fringe NZ is really enthusiastic about V Freestyle this year because we’ve scored Ryan Mulroney, the two-time world champion footbag (hacky) player to demo his styles and teach some of his moves,” said Tim Renner, Fringe NZ Director.

In addition to Mulroney V Freestyle will have hip-hop bands and dancers, body-painters, motorbike trialling, graffiti walls, skateboard demos and DJ workshops.

“V Freestyle is aimed at kids from 12 to 17 years old and is all about not only showing them some cool stuff but also letting them have a go, guided by some real pros,” said Renner.

Freestyle will add a youth perspective to a busy Wellington weekend, with Dragon Boating, Fringe NZ Visual Tourists and the Stadium Spectacular all occurring on the same day.

“V Freestyle provides not only fun but role-models and a safe community space for teens. I think it will be a perfect place for parents to leave their offspring while they head off to tour artists’ studios or watch the dragonboating,” said Renner.

Fringe NZ V Freestyle is proudly supported by V, Wellington’s Waterfront, Hiremaster, Music City and Hirequip.

Definition of Terms Ollie - a skateboarding term that means to jump into the air while the board is gripped onto your feet.

Throw Up - a graffiti term meaning to paint a simple outline of your ‘tag’ quickly and fill it in slightly with designs.

Twiddle - a DJing term meaning to snap your middle and index fingers against the fader one by one as you move the record back and forth. It makes 2 distinct sounds if done properly.

Shred - a hacky sack term meaning to provide a really amazing display of footbag tricks.
