THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS, the central film in Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy, has accomplished further international recognition by receiving an outstanding 6 Academy Award nominations.

THE TWO TOWERS is once again included in the most coveted category of Best Picture, in addition to a host of nominations in the technical categories.

The 6 nominations are: Best Picture Barrie M. Osborne, Fran Walsh and Peter Jackson Art Direction Grant Major (Art Direction), Dan Hennah and Alan Lee (Set Decoration) Sound Christopher Boyes, Michael Semanick, Michael Hedges and Hammond Peek Sound Editing Ethan Van der Ryn and Michael Hopkins Visual Effects Jim Rygiel, Joe Letteri, Randall William Cook and Alex Funke Film Editing Michael Horton

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS broke box office records when it released throughout New Zealand on December 19, 2002 including –

Highest Opening Day Record NZD$757,887 Highest Opening Weekend Record NZD$2,290,584 Highest Opening Week Record NZD$3,004,178

Box office total to date is NZD$10,624,976 million, and after 8 weeks in release, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS has easily secured the number 3 spot in New Zealand all time highest grossing box office history. Currently holding the all time record for highest grossing film is Peter Jackson’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING at NZD$14,608,889 followed by TITANIC in the Number 2 spot at NZD$12,967,660.
