The Long Range Surf Report

The Long Range Surf Report

Good afternoon. It is shaping up to be a great weekend for surf. If you were thinking about going out to Piha for the Tri Nations surf contest don't bother as it has been postponed until next month. We will let you know what the new date is as soon as we do.

1. Weather Situation 2. Regional Report

Weather Situation

Ex sub tropical low Dobi is slowly dissipating and heading southeast. Don't panic the swell has shifted to the east and is still pouring on to the East Coast from the far north all the way to the deep south. We have a high in the mid Tasman Sea that is slowly heading west and moving onto the country. A good sized Low has moved from under the bottom of the South Island and is heading east to Southeast. We should start to see a southerly swell developing from this low in the next day or so. It is looking like a southwest airflow for most of the country tomorrow with northwest in the south by Sunday.

Regional Report

North Island

Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:

West Coast: Southwest winds this afternoon with light winds in the morning and back to southwest in the afternoons. Southwest swell this arvo of 3-5 feet... Expect 3-4 feet tomorrow with an easing southwest swell by Sunday. HT 2300

East Coast: Plenty of swell from the east over the weekend with a great looking low sitting off the East Coast. It will ease by Sunday but it won't go away. Southwest winds forecast and seabreezes in the afternoon. Ht 1820.

Gisborne; Wairarapa:

No shortage of east swell with 3-4 feet and the odd bigger one. Plenty of East swell over the next couple of days. Northwest winds easing and a southwest developing and then back to the northwest over the weekend. We could well see a lift in swell from the south in the next 24-48 hours. HT 1645

Taranaki:

Light winds today with northwest developing and then the wind is forecast to flick to the Southwest. Southwest swell 3-5 feet and easing slowly over the weekend. HT 0850

Wellington:

West Coast; Northwest wind swell of around 2-3 feet with a northwest wind on it. Southerly change tonight so waves in the morning but it won't last long. Back to northwest by Sunday. HT 0850.

South Coast; Strong northwest winds easing and a southerly developing and no doubt a rising south swell. There is a good sized low to the south. So we live in hope. It is back to the northwest by Sunday. HT 1605.

South Island

West Coast:

Light southwest winds are going northwest and an easing southwest swell of 3-5 feet. Back to southwest by Sunday. HT 0850. Kaikoura; Canterbury:

Northeast winds easing and a southwest change this afternoon. Back to the northwest tomorrow. East swell on the rise with 2-3 feet this afternoon. A small south swell as well of 1-2 feet on the other side of the Peninsular. Looking good for waves this weekend finally. Ht 1610

Dunedin; Southland:

Southwest winds today easing tomorrow and a northeasterly developing. We have two swells on the rise. A north swell of 2-3 feet that will get bigger with 1-2 feet of south swell. Ht 1405.

So have a good weekend be kind to each other and make the most of the surf and summer. Don't forget to "surf before you surf"

p.s.I might even see you in the surf.

Cheers,

The Team http://www.surf.co.nz
