Karen Hunter - Fri 14th March

Hi there

Karen Hunter Temple 8pm Friday 14th March $20 pre-sold tickets only Tickets from Response www.response.co.nz ph 300-3700 Booking Fee Applies

A unique singer/songwriter with sassy humour and slinky grooves, Karen Hunter is at the forefront of original New Zealand music. Her upcoming show at Auckland's Temple bar will give Hunter a chance to showcase material created during a year long writing break throughout 2002. From the raw and funky live CD "Inside Outside" (2001), through the sensuous melodies, fretless bass, subtle cello and vocal percussion which permeate her debut CD "The Private Life of Clowns" (1998), it is hard to confine Hunter to any specific genre. Her albums explore the diversity of her musical taste and experience.

Hunter is a rhythmic player and a unique combination of melody and groove characterizes her sound. She utilizes a percussive thumb technique, independent bass lines and finely placed harmonics to add sparkle. Her early influences include Joan Armatrading, Blood, Sweat and Tears, and Patti Smith, providing her with an appreciation of passion and power in many different forms. She is not afraid to experiment with texture, and finds a way to fit ambient soundscapes alongside distorted acoustic guitars.

Karen Hunter is a "ridiculously accomplished guitar-playing, singing, songwriting Aucklander whose performances are pithy, compassionate and insightful" Metro magazine

"Sex and sensuality are as much a theme of Hunter's songs as they are a feature of her music, you can feel what she is singing about in the supplerhythms and seductive grooves." The New Zealand Listener

"Songwriting this good can not be faked." Ripitup magazine

"A full bountiful voice matched with a wild sensitive spirit." Pavement magazine
