Vip Welcome For Top Uk Music Talent

World-class music industry leaders from the United Kingdom will be officially welcomed tonight (25/2) at the launch of a three-day seminar series.

Resonate 2003 – to be held from this Wednesday (26/2) to Friday (28/2) at The EDGE in Auckland – is presented by the British Council New Zealand in association with Mai FM 88.6, NZ Music Industry Commission and NZ On Air.

Individual programme components are provided with the support of several private and public music organisations including York St Studios, Flying Fish and Fish n' Clips.

A powhiri for some of the UK's best creative talent will take place at 6pm tonight at the Ascott Metropolis, 1 Courthouse Lane, in central Auckland.

Special guests include the chief executive of MTV Europe, Brent Hansen, UK music video producer Pete Chambers, esteemed recording engineer Greg Haver, and Liz Kessler, a video commissioner for Island Universal UK.

Resonate 2003 aims to bring UK and local talent together to promote the sharing of ideas, and to provide unique and inspirational learning and creative opportunities for New Zealand artists.

The programme of seminars, public discussions and debates will cover a broad range of topics including the recording process, song writing, performance skills, music video production and broadcast media skills, and artist management.

New Zealand music commentator Murray Cammick, in a colunm for the Xtra website, says the forum is a great learning opportunity where music people can choose subjects and guests that appeal to their specialty.

Someone complained to him about the cost of attending and that it should be free but Mr Cammick says he is impressed by how low the prices are compared to foreign music seminar opportunities.

"Resonate is a bargain and it is right on our doorstep. Even if you had to travel from places beyond the Auckland Metropolis, the event is cheap by international standards.

"Local minds have to network with visitors from afar if we are going to successfully develop a market for our music overseas."
