Hato 'Paora Rocks!'

Hato 'Paora Rocks!'

By holding a Hip-Hop Concert and Family Day in Palmerston North, Hato Paora College is redefining the term Gala Day.

"We decided we needed to do something different and innovative to support the College," said Selwyn Ponga-Davis, key organizer for the event. Every year, the Hato Paora College Whanau Whanui is responsible for organizing the Gala Day. While the key aim of the Gala day is fundraising, it is also a time for whanau and friends to get together, meet socially, and support the College.

"Mahanga Williams, one of our parents and an old boy, planted the seed for the idea - a rock concert and gala day combined."

"Our committee helped grow the seed to what we have now - Paora Rocks." Set for Saturday March 22, 2003, the venue for the Gala day is away from the College, and is the Pascal St Stadium, Palmerston North - now known as Arena Manawatu. The gala day, which is free, will be held from 9am - 3pm. From 3pm in the afternoon, a concert will be held in a separate stadium, and feature new and exciting Maori and Polynesian artists, Nesian Mystik, Decepticonz, Ill Semantics, Maia, and K-Lee. Tickets can be purchased from Tickitek.

"We all can't wait, " says Ponga-Davis, "and even the organizing committee has to pay to get in!"
