Experience The Spirit Of Film Score
Presented by Cloud 9 in support of Cloud 9 Children's Foundation
The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert of music from the movies, on April 16 at the Michael Fowler Centre, including music from the recent hit film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Utu (music from the acclaimed soundtrack to the NZ movie starring Bruno Lawrence) and West Side Story, culminating in Raymond Thompson's Spirit Symphony, inspired by the "spiritual and elemental that's in every one of us", and with reference to his internationally successful television series, The Tribe. 'Spirit' is also inspired by those touched by Asperger Syndrome, a neurological developmental described as a form of genius because of the tendency for individuals to devlop and nurture their 'special interests' can result in great achievement. Raymond Thompson has recently been diagnosed as having Asperger Syndrome.
The Cloud 9 Children's Foundation is a registered charity set up to assist those touched by Aspergers and help society understand them - and for them to understand society in an easier way. History records that several high profile people have had Aspergers from Bill Gates, to Orson Wells, Mozart to, even, Einstein.
The 'Spirit Symphony' also reflects the isolation, loneliness, triumph, darkness and despair, along with the eccentricity and joy associated with Aspergers. A manifestation of the condition in the music so that someone might hear what it is, even if they do not understand what it is, and can only see on the surface what it is.
The event will be attended by stars of stage, screen and the sporting world, all supporting a very worthwhile charitable cause. So rub shoulders with the celebrities and nourish your own Spirit by being there.
