The Art of Islam Returns

Following the huge success of last month's Living Treasure's Day, Auckland Museum will host a second Islamic Art Day on Sunday 18th May.

Coinciding with International Museums Day, this special day of educational activities promises to be a not-to-be-missed event for Aucklanders with any interest in the culture and art of Islam. It is also the perfect opportunity to take a look at the spectacular exhibition, all the way from Kuwait, The Art of Islam, which is currently on display.

Special screenings include the highly recommended BBC documentary, "Hajj - The Journey of a Lifetime' . This documentary follows some of the 20,000 Britons who make the journey to their spiritual homeland, Mecca.

Magdi Nour from nzmuslim.net will introduce "Islam - The Noble Path', a video presentation covering various factors of the Islamic faith, with the opportunity for questions and answers.

Maan Alzaher will hold a fascinating talk on The Architecture of the Mosque.

Muhammed Shameem from the Islamic Resource Centre will hold a lecture on Misconceptions About Islam. He will discuss faith in God, atheism, society today and the misconceptions about Islam promoted by the media.

Other highlights include further educational talks, calligraphy demonstrations, and a special performance by the Alamanar Trust Vocal Group.
