Weather Situation
The big high that was with us last weekend has finally moved to the east. It is still in our weather system though and is providing northeast swell for the Auckland surfers. There is a small low sitting off the West Coast of the South Island. Quite a complex group of two lows, and a front all wrapped up in a southwest airflow, is slowly moving further to the southeast. This system is sitting to the southeast of the Chatham Islands. There are two little highs sitting in between New Zealand and this system.
Regional Report
North Island
Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:
West Coast: Onshore northwest winds all weekend this weekend, unfortunately. The west swell of 2-4 feet will ease and be replaced by a southwest swell that will build tomorrow. We should see a good solid 4-6 feet. The south swell will start to ease Sunday night. HT 1640.
East Coast: This is the coast for waves this weekend. We have a northeast swell this afternoon of 2- 4 feet, that will slowly ease over the weekend. As the swell eases, the angle will change more to the east. Northwest winds all weekend with the odd burst of westerly. HT 1320.
Gisborne; Wairarapa:
Southwest swell rising today and easing tomorrow, then rebooting Sunday. We can expect east to northeast winds in the north of the region with the wind tending northwest and then southwest by late Sunday. Northeast winds in the southern Wairarapa tomorrow. HT 1200.
Taranaki:
The forecast is good but somehow I find it a bit strange. Northeast winds, but only for a day with the wind flicking back to the northwest by Sunday. West swell easing and southwest swell slowly building, but don't expect too much. HT 1555.
Wellington:
West Coast; Don't expect much out here this weekend and you wont be disappointed. East to northeast winds. Head to the South Coast. HT1340.
South Coast; Waves tomorrow gang, with east to northeast winds and a south swell you will be able to find somewhere to imerse yourselves. No shortage of swell, this arvo in the south facing beaches in Town. We have a lumpy onshore effected 3-4 feet. South facing beaches tomorrow. HT 1105.
South Island
West Coast:
West swell easing this afternoon and a southwest swell developing. This arvo we have a light onshore northerly and 2-3 feet of easing west swell. The southwest swell will ease tomorrow night but get a rekick on Sunday. We can expect northeast winds swinging to southeast by Sunday. HT 1455.
Kaikoura; Canterbury:
We have a small northeast swell on the town beaches, that is not looking that good. A foot to a foot and a half. Southerlies dying out and northeast winds tending easterly is on the cards for the weekend. We also have a south swell of 2-3 feet on the other side of the Peninsular that should ease over the weekend. Kaikoura is picking up two swells with an easing northeast swell of 1-2 feet, and south swell of 2-3 feet. It is looking like strong southeast to east winds here tomorrow easing by Sunday. HT 1100.
Dunedin; Southland:
South swell of 3-5 feet this arvo that is lumpy and messy. The southerly onshore is easing and it is looking good for waves tomorrow, with northeast winds. Southeast by Sunday unfortunately. Slowly easing south swell over the weekend. HT 1325.
