The Friday Arvo Surf Update

The Friday Arvo Surf Update

Brought to you by.. http://www.nzxsports.com

Well, Black Friday, you know what that means...It means tomorrow the All Blacks thrash, yes I said thrash, the English at rugger old boy. Now the more serious stuff...waves. There will be waves to be had as we say, so read on and see you in the surf.

1. Weather Situation 2. Regional Report 3. Surf Pad of the Week

Weather Situation

Put your hands up we are surrounded, surrounded by lows. We have a great looking low sitting off the East Coast, which will deliver east to southeast swell for the weekend. We have another to the southwest of the South Island. There is also a low just poking its nose out from under Stewart Island, heading east. In fact, check a weather map out, we actually have 6 lows around us.

Regional Report

North Island

Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:

West Coast: Southeasterlies this arvo going northeast tonight. A touch of northerly tomorrow and back to northeast Sunday and then back to onshore westerlies after the weekend. We have a west to southwest swell of 3-6 feet. There is still the odd one sneaking in that's a bit big. Should clean up over the weekend and slowly ease with a rekick Monday. HT 0830.

East Coast: Well, you will have to go hunting on this coast for waves, but you should find something. We have a rising east to southeast swell of 2-3 feet and we are looking at east to southeast that will go northeast on Sunday. Offshores by Monday. HT1830.

Gisborne; Wairarapa:

No shortage of east to southeast swell over the weekend. Onshore winds though with southeast in the Gisborne region and northeast in the Wairarapa. Its looking like the swell will really kick in on Sunday. HT 1710.

Taranaki: A good place to be for waves this weekend, with north to northeast winds and west to southwest swell of 4-5 feet down the coast and a good 2-3 in Town. What more could you ask for? Bar the all Blacks to win. HT 0755.

Wellington:

West Coast; Not a lot of action on this coast for the weekend. North to northeast winds tending northwest tomorrow and Sunday.

South Coast; Northeast winds this afternoon and tomorrow with northwest in town on Sunday. It is looking like the wind could well stay northeast over the coast on Sunday. We have an east-southeast swell of 1-2 feet in town, that is getting in over the coast a lot better with 3-4 feet at NingNong. HT 1700.

South Island

West Coast:

Northeast winds this afternoon, slowly heading to the southwest by Sunday. No shortage of swell in this neck of the woods with a southwest swell on the rise and northwest swell forecast to do the same. This arvo we have hardly any wind and 3-5 feet of swell from the southwest. HT 0920.

Kaikoura; Canterbury:

Northeast onshores in town today and a small south swell of 1-1.5 feet. The swell should improve as the low moves further offshore and the swell becomes more easterly. Northwest winds tomorrow with northeast likely for Sunday. Kaikoura is looking real good for the weekend, with light winds tending northwest in the morning and northeast in the arvo. An east to southeast swell of 3-4 feet with heaps of lines. HT1710.

Dunedin; Southland:

South swell of 1-3feet this arvo, that doesn't look too bad at all. Not a lot of wind at the moment. Northwest to northeast winds and a slowly building south swell. HT 1410.
