Emma Paki - this Fri June 27th

Emma Paki Friday June 27th 9pm $10

Her songwriting is disarming with both its melodic sense and its wide eyed lack of guile." NZ Herald

Emma has been recording (with a little help from Bic Runga) and is working to get a single out in the next couple of months. "Her new songs are to die for" says Malcolm Black of Heart Music, with whom Emma is currently working.

Her single "System Virtue" cleaned up at the '93 NZ Music Awards winning Best Songwriter, Most Promising Female Vocalist and Best Video. Her much anticipated 1996 debut album, 'Oxygen Of Love', reached gold status in New Zealand and provided the hit singles, "System Virtue", "Paradise", and "Greenstone", which was produced by former Split Enz and Crowded House member, Neil Finn. Her single "Greenstone" charted to #5 on the NZ charts and won her a nomination for Best Female Vocalist in the '94 awards.

Emma Paki grew up in the Ngati Awa tribal district of Whakatane. At the tender age of 8 she started singing, playing the guitar and studying piano. Her songwriting is an honest extension of her life experiences. Their poignant lyrics reflect her personal views of society, politics, love and kotahitanga (unity) and fulfills her dream of a performance and recording career in music.

"Oxygen of Love" is remarkable. Paki has made perhaps one of the most beautiful albums yet produced in this country yet. She is a very special talent." Metro "Quite simply the most beautiful album I've ever clapped ears on. These songs are bittersweet and fragile enough to shatter at a touch. She could sing extracts from the Road Code and it'd send tremors through your soul." Waikato Times

She is also performing live with Dam Native and DLT as part of the Matariki celebrations at the Helensville Grand on 12 July.
