Kiwi Hog Members Arrive In Vancouver Canada

A large group of New Zealand Harley riders and enthusiasts are in Canada, collecting their bikes, & making final preparations for their epic 25 days journey across America.

The sixty HOG members arrived in Vancouver last night. They’re heading for the worlds biggest party to be held at the centenary celebrations of the Harley Davidson Motor Company, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, in late August.

Strict security has surrounded a precious cargo of modern and vintage bikes since their arrival at the Port Of Vancouver a few days ago. The 33 bikes are valued at more than $NZ2 Million dollars [$C1.75 Million]. Among them are 7 Vintage Harleys, some more than 75 years old. It took three weeks for the bikes to be shipped Auckland Vancouver.

One member of the group is using the trip to personally raise funds for a local Hospice in New Zealand. Roger Clausen is a trustee of the Arohanui Hospice in Palmerston North. He will be accompanied by three other riders, to New York, where his speedometer will be officially read and the mileage of his epic journey, from Pacific to Atlantic, recorded.

So far more than $NZ20,000.00 - [$C18,000.00] has been raised in the appeal.

Mr Clausen will arrive in New York on 8 September 2003, An official welcome for he and his colleagues will take place the next day at the Jacob Perlow Hospice in Manhattan.

Meanwhile a website has been established to track the group’s progress. The website provides full details of the lengthy seven years of preparations and planning for the tour. There’s also an interactive section whereby individuals can send the tour members personal messages of support. Up to date photos are loaded onto the site within minutes.

The HOG members come from all over New Zealand, from Auckland to Christchurch, and some have accrued their holidays for past three years to be on this trip of a lifetime.
