Pig and Runt, born on the same day, in the same hospital, are twins in all but bloodline. An inseparable duo, like Romeo and Juliet, they inhabit a delicate and dangerous world where they make their own rules and have their own language. They are partners in crime, with an appetite for recklessness and destruction.
But in the days before their 17th birthday the perfect balance of their world begins to shift. Pig¹s sexual awakening and increasing jealousy begins to threaten their private universe. The inseparable duo are about to separate, and which one will survive will depend on which one can break free. Living for today, their escape into a world of music, cider and desire becomes a night that will change their lives forever.
Winner of both the Dublin Theatre Festival¹s and Edinburgh Festival¹s, Best Theatre Awards, the Observer Play of the Year Award and the Scotland on Sunday Critic¹s Award, Disco Pigs is the edgy, provocative and high energy coming of age tale of Cork¹s self styled Bonnie and Clyde that has excited theatre goers and critics the world over.
This New Zealand production premiered at the Court Theatre in Christchurch receiving massive critical and popular acclaim. Starring two rising young actors, Simon London and Ban Abdul (Top Girls), and featuring the music of Christchurch indie label, Fabel Records, Disco Pigs is 80 minutes of theatre you¹ll never forget.
