Fashion Week Fun at THE EDGE®

It’s a hive of activity at Auckland Town Hall and Aotea Square this week as THE EDGE® prepares for L’Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week 2003.

But before the first model struts down the catwalk in the Great Hall, Auckland Town Hall, the first sip of bubbly in the Deutz Bar and the first muffin to be enjoyed in the Fashion Quarterly café on Aotea Square, the lights need to be hung, catwalks constructed, marquees erected, carpet laid and brass polished.

THE EDGE® Events Co-ordination Manager Gillian Officer says the annual L’Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week is one of the most complex events to be held at THE EDGE®.

“THE EDGE® is very proud to be the home of L’Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week,” Gillian says. “It’s a very exciting event for Auckland and behind every aspect of Fashion Week is an enormous amount of planning.

“We’re liaising with sponsors, designers, themers, caterers and technical production crew. Plus we’re busy getting the Auckland Town Hall and Aotea Square looking their best for the week.

Six marquees of differing sizes will go erected on Aotea Square during this week and by Monday 20 October these will be ready to host a catwalk, the café, the trade exhibition and a buyer’s lounge.

Auckland Town Hall hosts the main 17m catwalk in the Great Hall. This timber and steel catwalk takes several days to erect and houses lighting, sound and some special effects.

L’Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week draws international buyers to view the best New Zealand fashion can offer from Monday to Thursday. On Friday, the public have the opportunity to taste the fashion excitement at Newmarket Fashion Friday in Aotea Square from 11am to 8pm.

The exhibition tent and MAX marquee will be open to the public and from 12.15pm, catwalk shows will showcase this season’s fashions.

Plus, the weekly Aotea Square Markets will be dotted around the Fashion Week marquees bringing a real festival atmosphere to the centre of Auckland.
