Step out of the cold, verse thirsty night Into the warm ribs of a welcoming house Where wine and song are poured forth In a proud libation of free jazz celebration
>From the crew who brought you The Word Festival and Magellan (nominated Best New Media, Fringe NZ 2003), Speakeasy brings together the Word Collective's finest new jazz poets in a cabaret savvy show as part of the 7th Wellington International Jazz Festival.
Featuring the ethereal voice of Ciara Mulholland and Shakespeare's Bitch, sweet sounds from Glen Maw, the syncopated styles and improvisation of The Winter and the poetry of Craig Ireson, Dave Edwards, Jonny Potts, Felix Preval and Gloryroad Topham.
Six poets, two bands, one hour of breathtaking
collaboration. Speakeasy is reminiscent of a time when jazz
and poetry were subversive, secret passions. Speakeasy
introduces the new voices from Wellington's beat
underground.
