AJ Hackett Bungy this week celebrates 15 years of adventure tourism operations in New Zealand, with planned celebrations around the country and a world record bungy jump to be staged in Auckland.
The first stage of celebrations will occur on Monday 10th November, when a world first bungy manoeuvre involving multiple professional jumpers, will be attempted from the Auckland Harbour Bridge. AJ Hackett Bungy opened their fourth generation Bungy site on the Auckland Harbour Bridge in April 2003.
Aucklanders are invited to celebrate with an exclusive $25 Bungy or Bridge Climb offer, only valid on November 15, 16 and 17. Bookings must be made in person at the Bungy base complex, 70 Nelson St, from Thursday 14th November.
“This is time for great celebration at AJ Hackett Bungy,” says Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Bungy New Zealand, Henry van Asch. “Our birthday is a significant milestone for both our company and the NZ tourism industry as a whole. We have spent 15 years striving to elevate the profile of adventure tourism in New Zealand and today I believe we have achieved that goal.”
Mr van Asch adds that in addition to Monday’s world first jump further celebrations will take place on Wednesday 12th November, the actual anniversary, in Queenstown.
The Kawarau Bridge, regarded globally as the home of bungy jumping, will host a cocktail party with invited guests, followed by a party for the current AJ Hackett Bungy Queenstown – based Crew.
The Kawarau Bridge site is currently undergoing an NZD$8 million dollar development, where a multi-media theatre experience, known as ‘Bungy Dome’, will capture the emotional and physical journey of Bungy, and will be the central theme for the ecologically designed building. The development is due to open to the public in December 2003.
“AJ Hackett Bungy has matured
from cavalier beginnings to become a global bench-mark for
personal challenge experiences. This evolution is to the
credit of our crew and our continual commitment to
developing the Bungy product.”
