The Rise and Fall or the Fall and Rise of Dinky Jon' is a new NZ production, specially commissioned by Bats Theatre for STAB 2003: A Theatre Revolution. Dinky Jon is a solo comedy show which takes a satirical look at New Zealand culture through the eyes of a struggling, though deeply gifted, 33 year old limerick writer and farm boy. Dinky Jon is played by well-known Auckland comedian Jonathan Brugh, most well-known for his work on as part of the hit comic duo Sugar & Spice.
There is life, our reality, and then there is Dinky Jon and Dinky Jon's reality. There is a dawn, one particular dawn, that breaks on a verdant, rolling farm. A 33 year old boy wheels his dog into the thin sunlight, and prepares to feed out. Inside, his grandpa fingers a phone number written in Turkish; somewhere in the distance there is the joyful lament of a cow. Dinky Jon's chaotic, heart-warming and hilarious journey embraces our history while exposing the conundrums of today's complex world.
The Rise and Fall or the Fall and Rise of Dinky Jon' also features the premiere appearance of incredible contraptions you may never see on stage again such as some kind of pseudo-musical puppetry organ and some flying wizardry, plus a few surprising physical stunts.
Join Dinky, Wogo, Hippo, Wacko and Bess and see how Dinky negotiates his way in and out of our world from the parallel universe he dwells in.
