XMAS IN DA CARPARK!
One of the leading New Zealand hip hop acts - the Major Flavours Showcase - will headline a Christmas concert for Rotorua youth being organised by Mai FM 96.7.
'Xmas in Da Carpark' will be held at the BNZ carpark next to the Rotorua Community Youth Centre (aka 'Da Bomb Shelter') from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday, December 13. The Major Flavours Showcase joins local hip hop talent as well as Maori and Pacific performers, singers and dancers on stage while other attractions include basketball games with the Titans, information stands and exhibitions, food stalls and BMX demonstrations.
Mai FM 96.7 account manager Joanna (Jo) Gargiulo says a "booze bus pull" by local teenagers through central Rotorua this weekend will raise money to stage the youth centre event. 'Da Bomb Shelter Xmas Challenge' begins at 11.30am on Saturday (6/12) outside the Novotel in Tutanekai Street and arrives at City Focus in central Rotorua at around 12 noon.
"The youth will be working alongside the police to break down barriers between the two groups and to promote the 'don't drink and drive' message - to think about the consequences before they jump in their cars," Jo says.
"Mai FM 96.7 is a youth station so the Christmas concert the following weekend is an ideal way for our youth to celebrate this time of year, and to stand proud of who they are and who they represent in an environment where they feel comfortable."
