The people love ‘The Zoo’!
‘The Zoo’, featuring the life and times of animals and their keepers at Auckland Zoo, has been voted ‘Best Reality Documentary Series’ in The TV Guide People's Choice Awards for the third year running.
More than 11,000 votes were received for this category alone, and ‘The Zoo’ captured 33 per cent of the vote for the top six programmes voted for. Viewers can look forward to a sixth series, currently in the making.
“We’re absolutely delighted that New Zealanders of all ages love the programme, and obviously animals, so much,” says Glen Holland, Zoo Director.
“Greenstone Pictures do a fantastic job capturing what really happens here on a day-to-day basis for animals and their keepers and veterinary staff. And clearly people love being taken behind the scenes in this way, and learning about all the animals, and conservation programmes we're involved in.”
Director and producer of 'The Zoo' Andrea Lamb
says viewers can expect to enjoy some great stories in 2004
in the extended 10-programme series (previously just 7
episodes), including progress on Iwani, the baby siamang,
and the male lions from South Africa, another international
story, and some special newcomers.
"There's always interesting developments with animals, and also new material due to births and new arrivals. The crew is already ensconced in Zoo life. We love working with the keepers, they're so incredibly dedicated and passionate about what they do. That passion certainly comes across in the series, and is no doubt one of the key reasons people love the programme so much,” says Andrea.
