FRINGE NZ DRAG RACE OFF TO A STILETTOED START!
The famed Fringe NZ DRAG Race will get off to a teetering start tomorrow at 12.15, Friday 23 January at the Old Bank Arcade.
High heels are compulsory for this year's Wellington DRAG race which sees outrageously costumed Fringers scrambling down Willis Street, vying for top places. Wellington's Mayor Kerry Prendergast will be among the DRAGed-up pack.
The DRAG race promises to set new standards for the attire of Drag Kings and Queens. For any competitors struggling with their look, the Fringe will provide assistance a la "Queer Eye for the Straight Racer". Expert help will be on hand, armed with lippy, blusher, and of course, high heels.
"Last year we had S& M devils wielding whips, Polyfilla sprinting in 10-inch heels, and some rocking Elvis Drag Kings swinging their hips ... it's a new look for Willis Street," says Fringe NZ Director, Tim Renner.
The DRAG race convenes at the Old Bank Arcade, and will run from the corner of Willis Street and Lambton Quay to the corner of Willis Street and Mercer Street.
The Fringe NZ Festival 04: Revelation programme will be launched tonight. The Fringe NZ Festival runs from 14 February - 14 March 2004. - in case of wet weather - The Fringe NZ DRAG Race will be held on Saturday 24 January at 12.15pm -
