Judith Tizard Blesses Fringe NZ 04: Revelation

FRINGE NZ MEDIA RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 23 January 2004

Judith Tizard Blesses Fringe NZ 04: Revelation

Blessings were bountiful at St Andrew's church during last night's programme launch of the Fringe NZ Festival: 04 Revelation. Leading the sermons, the Hon Judith Tizard

Associate Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, preached the value of artistic and creative endeavors to a large gathering of Fringe followers.

Fringe NZ Festival showcases new kiwi creative works from all kinds of art form, including spoken word, comedy, theatre, dance, movement, music, visual arts, media and a mix of all of the above.

After an awe inspiring performance from Punga Legs aerialists dangling from the church's ceiling and soul lifting music from GalaXies Choir, Ms Tizard spoke of the risk taken by experimental artists developing their work and the value of this undertaking to society.

Since its inception 11 years ago, more than 10,000 people have participated in Fringe NZ productions. This year more than 100 righteous performances will feature from February 14 to March 14, and at a multitude of venues and studios throughout Wellington.

" I encourage people to experience the bright light of Fringe NZ: Revelation. Pick up a copy of our doctrine - the programme or visit http://www.fringe.org.nz ," says Miranda Clayton, co-chair of the Fringe Arts Trust.
