Arch Hill Feb News

Arch Hill Feb News

Hello there,

Welcome to the first Arch Hill email out of 2004. No we've not disappeared but actually we've been very busy and have two excellent new releases coming your way in the next two weeks. Apart from the fact they are damn good, we are particularly pleased to be releasing our first Wellington band, and our first Sydney band...kind of spreading the wings so to speak. Anyways, let us tell you about... Ghostplane Seven Track CD - The Panther Valley Country Club - Monday March 1st Dappled Cities Fly Seven Track CDEP - Wimbo Park - Monday March 8th Videos on the Telly Stuff on the Horizon

Ghostplane Seven Track CD - The Panther Valley Country Club - Monday March 1st This Monday the 1st of March sees the release of a seven tracker by Wellington's Ghostplane (formerly Dana Eclair). Recorded in the back-blocks north of Wellington during one or two long summers.

For those who don't already know, Ghostplane fall broadly into the category of experimental indie rock/pop with a side of dark alt-country thrown in. With three vocalists, acoustic and electric guitars, miscellaneous semi-functioning electronic devices, lopsided rhythms, old drum machines and due respect to Œthe random element¹ you could say, in musicological terms, they¹ve 'got their own thing going' - and it is a very good thing.

The recording and production of ŒPanther Valley¹ was done by Mark Dryburgh. However, following one too many late night band listening session he handed over mix tweaking duties to David Holmes, recordist of Jakob, Gramsci and many others.

You may have recently seen Ghosplane playing support for the Pretenders or Calexico (both in Wellington) or at other gigs (in other cities) along with the Verlaines, Phoenix Foundation, Voom or Fang. It is also possible you have heard the tracks 'State Hijak' (on b-net or 'The Hill is Alive' compilation) or 'The Straight and Narrow' (b-net or video).

Look out for upcoming gigs by Ghostplane, which we will tell you about in an email newsletter shortly.

Dappled Cities Fly Seven Track CDEP - Wimbo Park - Monday March 8th The following week Arch Hill is making friends across the Tasman and releasing an EP by the excellent Dappled Cities Fly from Sydney. That's all we're going to say about it for now...we'll keep it a little bit mysterious for now and give you the full details next week. Although we can say this; they are very good and look out for them touring NZ very soon.

Videos on the Telly A flurry of video making activity by Arch Hill bands means you might be seeing a bit of them on your local music TV. Ghostplane's 'Straight and Narrow' has some very tricky older person dancing, Dappled Cities Fly's 'Be Engine' does some weird reverse negative black and white action, Red Drum (Jeremy Eade - formerly of Black Drum and Garageland's new band) goes Psychedelic on 'No Cross on the Crossroads' and Fang have some trouble with a Pink Yeti in 'I Can't Help It'

Stuff on the Horizon In the studio, completing albums in various states of completion are Pine and Fang, - no it's not a race, but sometimes it feels like one. Listen out for the new Fang single 'I Can't Help It' and we'll also be hearing a new single from the Pine soon as well.

Luv from Arch Hill

If you don't want to get any more Arch Hill mailouts please let us know and we'll take you off pronto.
