BATS goes mad with the Fringe
BATS goes mad with the Fringe
The upcoming week at BATS Theatre features a kaleidoscope of spectacular shows, with everything from a taste of Italy, to a go-go bar turned church, to a man obsessed with floods.
On Sunday BATS gets a taste of Italian commedia with the debut of ³At High Altitude², a show featuring the versatile talents of professional clown, musician, street performer and actor Paola Grippa, accompanied by live music.
Tuesday sees the arrival to Wellington of the much anticipated ³Happy Hour for Miserable Children², a freak show that uses slapstick, mime, cabaret, gothic and burlesque to tell the story of two builders hired by an evil priest to turn a run-down go-go bar into a church.
Fresh from a sell-out season in Auckland where they became a cult favourite, Happy Hour is sure to be a sell-out with a special 11pm Friday showing added to help cope with demand. Book now because this is one freak show you won¹t want to miss!
Hot on the heels of New Zealand¹s worst flooding comes a one-man show that examines the biggest flood of them all. In ³Fact and Fable² Kevin Keys takes on multiple roles to examine the nature of myth and history in the story of two brothers that go to the resting place of Noah¹s Ark, featuring a water filled set by Bronwyn Bent.
³Libella Fa² begins its short three night season on Friday, bringing to the Fringe its unique brand of improvisational dance. Featuring music, text, humour and striking lighting design, this is a show where the artists surrender to the desire of making something interesting happen, with every show sure to be different.
The Fringe NZ Festival will be over before you know it, so get in now by booking tickets by email (bats@bats.co.nz), phone (802 4176), or popping in to 1 Kent Terrace (by the Fire Station). And remember all Fringe Addict Card holders get $10 tickets to BATS shows.
