Five Fab Shows at BATS
We have five fringe shows this week, encompassing physical theatre, mask, mime, dance, comedy, slapstick and drama! Finishing tonight is the fantastic Platinum Connection, an extreme theatre duet, followed by At High Altitude. Opening tomorrow is the much anticipated Happy Hour for Miserable Children, then Fact and Fable on Wednesday - opening night already sold out! Finally this week Libella Fa (dragonfly four), an improvised dance work opens on Friday.

Is love just a txt message away? The Platinum Connection takes a fresh look at the minefield of relationships in the context of the exciting world of advanced communication. Theatre, dance and voice culminate in an explosive exploration of Love through e-mail forwards, internet marriages and txt dating. The Platinum Connection examines the new landscape of connection in the communication age. Featuring Sacha Copland and Simon Vincent.

This is a play about journey, destiny and love. A man looks at a woman from behind. This man imagines that he can talk to her, that he can tell her a story, what he wishes he could tell her but is not able toŠThe life asks you for going forward. ³Life is like a dance, two people hand in hand. Life slides softly touching the grass and one¹s weight is at the mercy of the other one and so on². They are looking for the point with no return, the limit of the finishing line. Paolo Grippa is an Italian professional actor and theatre director who has worked both in Europe and United States. He has been researching the body as the vehicle of communication. Furthermore he is a clown, musician and street theatre performer.

Two inept but eager builders are hired by an evil priest to turn a rundown, forgotten go-go bar into a church. This doesn¹t suit the tenant. This is a love story. Happy Hour for Miserable Children is a homage to slapstick, a rummage through the lint-filled pockets of mime, cabaret and gothic, burlesque FREAK SHOWS!! Staged by the ringmasters of theatre beating Barnie Duncan and Trygve Wakenshaw recently resuscitated from their sell-out season at Auckland¹s Covert Theatre.

Where does history finish and myth begin? Fact and Fable is the story of two brothers, both authors, both in preparation to publish new work. One brother is a popular historian, a meticulous researcher devoted to the pursuit of truth and currently trying to locate the real life final resting place of Noah's Ark. The other is a collector of fables and parables, self appointed to raise the nation's moral fibre. A solo show featuring actor Kevin Keys, who plays both brothers and all the peripheral characters too. Written by: Jamie Standen (NZ Emerging Talent of the Year, NZ Advertising Awards), directed by Jamie Standen and Kevin Keys, designed by: Bronwyn Bent.

Libella Fa ( Dragonfly Four) is a new company of NZ dancers and musicians who employ improvisation as a primary mode of performance. For this production the company are directed by Magpie Music Dance Company. This Amsterdam based collective calls upon the rich tradition of improvisation in the Netherlands as a model for performance collaborations involving dancers, musicians, text, humour and lighting design.
