Dan Adams Gets Intimate With The Bard
Wellington songwriter Dan Adams (Verona) has created an intimate live show of Shakespeare songs to celebrate the launch of his CD This Love Will Undo Us All. It is a stunning collection of poems and dialogue from Shakespeare’s plays, set to acoustic rock styles that are both refreshingly unique and undeniably Kiwi.
The show, which runs from April 1 to 3 at Bats Theatre, features the original musicians from the CD - Dan Adams (vocals, guitar, fife), Sebastian Morgan-Lynch (cello) and Douglas Voon (percussion, backing vocals).
Dan Adams says “With just three musicians it's easy for each sound to find its own space - something that is more difficult to achieve in a larger ensemble like Verona. In this relaxed setting I can explore the full range of my singing voice, and different shades of meaning in these amazing texts.”
For everyone who enjoyed art-rock band Verona’s award winning Shakespeare show Storm (2002) and their recent NZ International Arts Festival show Geographical Cure this is a 'must see' night - and a chance to introduce friends and family to this inspiring musical talent.
"I started writing songs using Shakespeare texts for Verona's Storm show in 2002. I came away with the feeling that the Bard and I had unfinished business. This Love Will Undo Us All, both the CD and show, has been a wonderful opportunity to set more of Shakespeare's beautiful and profound texts that didn't fit in with Storm's obsession with big weather. I concentrated on passages dealing with timeless themes of love, loss and our fragile human condition” says Adams.
