South Island Monopoly Championship Passes Go

South Island Monopoly Championship Passes Go

Small green houses and tiny red hotels will be popping up in Christchurch this Sunday 16th May with the South Island Monopoly Championship due to take place at Ferrymead Heritage Park.

Thirty-two lucky contestants will play two 90-minute rounds each, on a table of four players. The two winners chosen will be the contestants with the highest number of total assets at the end of the two rounds. The South Island Champion and first runner-up will then go on to compete against the North Island Champion and runner-up for the title of New Zealand Monopoly Champion in July.

The New Zealand Monopoly Champion will win a trip to Tokyo to represent New Zealand at the World Championships in October this year.

The North Island Champions were named in Auckland on Sunday 2nd of May. Adrian Sutherland, a real estate agent from Tolaga Bay took out the North Island title, closely followed by runner up Mathew Morris from Martinborough.

Teresa Mitrovic, marketing manager for Hasbro New Zealand Limited, who manufacture and distribute Monopoly is sure South Islanders will match the skill shown in the North Island Championship. “The North Island event was such a huge success. Everyone played fairly and tactical abilities were on display. I am sure that the South Island Championship will keep us on the edge of our seats. I recommend that if you are in Christchurch on Sunday, you come along and see the talent”

Monopoly is one of the most popular board-games in the world and is now sold in 80 countries around the world and is published in 26 different languages.
