A feast of Beethoven

It is probably true to say that today Beethoven’s music is the most frequently performed of any composer’s. People around the world continue to delight in hearing it.

On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 July the Auckland Philharmonia under the baton of Marc Taddei presents an all-Beethoven programme in the second concert of the orchestra’s 2004 Lion Foundation Midwinter Masterpieces.

The concert features a programme designed to appeal to seasoned concertgoers and newcomers alike: Symphony No.6 (Pastoral), Namensfeier Overture, and Piano Concerto No.3 with soloist Tamas Vesmas, a well established and highly regarded musician on both the New Zealand and international stage.

Midwinter Masterpieces has been a part of the Auckland Philharmonia’s concert calendar since 1994, and has become renowned for its intimate and accessible style. Held in May, July and September, the three concerts in the 2004 Lion Foundation Midwinter Masterpieces are each performed on Saturday afternoon at the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna and repeated the following afternoon at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell.
