Free Ski Associaton Announces Country-Wide Trampoline Tour

The Free Ski Association of New Zealand (FSANZ) has announced a series of events to introduce young skiers to the thrills of aerial skiing in a safe and controlled environment.

The Free Ski Trampoline Air Awareness Tour is led by former New Zealand National Freeski Champion, Hamish Acland, together with National Half Pipe Champion Jacob McCleary. Using trampolines in sports centres, participants will be taught the techniques required to get safe air by two of the country’s best athletes whose inspiring skiing frequently graces the pages of ski magazines.

“Kids see their ski heroes in magazines and of course want to emulate them,” said Hamish Acland, who’s also president of FSANZ. “By teaching them the basics on the trampoline, when they get on the slopes and hit the terrain park they’ve got a much better chance of landing safely. The events also give kids in cities a chance to hook up with others their own age and with the same passion for free skiing. They might not be able to get to the snow every week but as least they can practice on the trampoline.”

Children and their parents can also discover more about New Zealand free skiing opportunities including local events, school holiday programmes, camps, equipment and national development initiatives.

The dates for the Free Ski Trampoline Awareness Tour are: Saturday 19 June North Harbour Gym Centre, Auckland 4-7pm Sunday 20 June Capital Gymnastics, Wellington 4-7pm Tuesday 22 June QE2 Centre, Christchurch 6-8.30pm Wednesday 23 June Otago Girls’ High School, Dunedin 4-7pm

Entry costs $10. For further information, contact Hamish Acland on 021 689410.
