Top Hawke’s Bay Designer aligns with 2004 Hawke’s Bay A & P Mercedes-Benz Wine Awards
David Trubridge, one of
New Zealand’s leading artists, has been commissioned to
design the Champion of Champions Trophy for the 2004 Hawke’s
Bay A & P Mercedes-Benz Wine Awards, which will be announced
on Tuesday 19th October 2004 at Waikoko Gardens.
The winning winery will get to keep the artwork, with a new trophy commissioned each year.
Hawke’s Bay A & P Mercedes–Benz Wine Awards chairman of Judges Steve Smith says they are thrilled David has agreed to create a unique trophy for the winner of the supreme award.
“It adds a new level of interest and is a fantastic opportunity to align Hawke’s Bay art with Hawke’s Bay wine. He is ones of New Zealand’s best known furniture designers, regularly exhibiting overseas in Europe, North America and Japan; and we are privileged to have him involved in the 2004 Awards as they continue to grow.”
David Trubridge is recognised as one of New Zealand’s leading designers and recently exhibited at the Milan Furniture Fair 2004. His “Body-Raft” design is currently being manufactured by Cappellini. “Sling” was selected for the International Design Yearbook 2003 and won the Best Product award 2002 from the Designers Institute of NZ. He was selected to go on the NZ Artists Antarctica programme in the austral summer of 2003/04 which has lead to a whole new body of work with an environmentally conscious theme.
Mr Smith says the Awards, now in their fourth year, are a showcase for the winemaking region. “It is encouraging to see them growing steadily, it all helps to strengthen the national profile of Hawke’s Bay’s wines.”
All wines entering the Hawke’s Bay Wine Awards must consist of at least 85% grapes grown from within the region. The 2003 Awards saw a record number of wine entries from wineries throughout New Zealand, with Selaks Founders Reserve Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2002 taking away the Champion of Champions Trophy.
Mercedes Benz Team European continues its association as the principal sponsor for the 2004 Hawke’s Bay Wine Awards. Sainsbury Logan & Williams, Coffey Davidson, Wineworks, Farmlands, Furnware, Fluidex, Kelt Capital Limited, Tremains Real Estate, Haulage Transport Ltd, Bluewater Hotel and Hawke’s Bay Today are all supporting Category Sponsors.
