Edgell Wins Top Auckland Car Club Award
New Zealand Formula Ford champion Tim Edgell was one of the big winners at the Auckland Car Club's annual 'Race Awards Night' late last week, taking home the prestigious Bruce McLaren Endeavour award.
The Bruce McLaren award is the sixth the 23-year-old Aucklander has claimed since winning the 2003/04 Talley's New Zealand Formula Ford Championship.
At that final round of the championship he won the overall New Zealand Formula Ford Championship trophy, a MotorSport New Zealand Gold Star, plus two local trophies; one in memory of Morrie Smith, the other Denny Hulme.
Then at the Placemakers V8 Supercar meeting at Pukekohe a month later he got to take home the Formula Ford Trophy for a dominant win in the support race on Sunday.
Edgell says that it is an honour and a privilege to win the Bruce McLaren award, one of two presented to the Auckland Car Club club by the McLaren Formula 1 team.
"I've been a member of the club since I started racing cars and my family has been involved with it for as long as I can remember so winning one of their awards is certainly pretty special," he said.
